Norway Salary Calculator: Take-Home Pay After Tax
Enter your gross annual salary to see your take-home pay after Norwegian income tax. Results are for an employee aged 17 to 69 living outside Finnmark and Nord-Troms, paid 12 equal monthly payments.
Worked example: 600,000 kr salary
A gross salary of 600,000 kr gives a minstefradrag of 95,700 kr, because 46% of the pay would be 276,000 kr and the deduction is capped. Ordinary income is 600,000 - 95,700 - 114,540 (the personal allowance) = 389,760 kr, taxed at 22% for 85,747 kr. Bracket tax is 1.7% on the 92,200 kr between 226,100 kr and 318,300 kr (1,567 kr) plus 4.0% on the 281,700 kr above that (11,268 kr), which is 12,835 kr. The national insurance contribution is 7.6% of 600,000 kr, or 45,600 kr. Total tax is 85,747 + 12,835 + 45,600 = 144,182 kr, so take-home pay is 600,000 - 144,182 = 455,818 kr a year, or about 37,985 kr a month over 12 payments.
This is our own calculation from the published 2026 rates and it is checked by a test in our code. We did not find an official worked example, so it is not an official figure. It assumes wage income only, with no other deductions.
How we calculate this
Ordinary income is gross pay less the minstefradrag (46% of pay, at most 95,700 kr) and the personal allowance of 114,540 kr, and it is taxed at 22%. Bracket tax (trinnskatt) is charged on gross pay in five steps: 1.7% from 226,100 kr, 4.0% from 318,300 kr, 13.7% from 725,050 kr, 16.8% from 980,100 kr and 17.8% from 1,467,200 kr. The national insurance contribution (trygdeavgift) is 7.6% of gross pay, but never more than 25% of the pay above 99,650 kr, which is why very low incomes pay less than 7.6%.
We do not model the lower rates in Finnmark and Nord-Troms, ages under 17 or over 69, pension income, other deductions or wealth tax. Payslips and the final tax assessment can differ by a few kroner.
Some items are provisional because we could not confirm them on an official page: rounding each tax to whole kroner, the absence of a minimum minstefradrag (the lower limit was abolished in 2023, which we confirmed only on SNL), and amounts you enter as retirement or pre-tax contributions, which only reduce take-home pay here.
