Australia Salary Calculator

Enter your gross pay to see income tax and the Medicare levy broken out line by line, using the official 2026-27 Australian Taxation Office figures for residents.

Worked example: $60,000 salary

Resident income tax on $60,000 is $8,520.00 (15% on the $26,800 above the $18,200 tax-free threshold, then 30% on the next $15,000). The Low Income Tax Offset is $100.00 at this income, so income tax is $8,420.00. The Medicare levy is 2% of $60,000 = $1,200.00. Total tax is $9,620.00, leaving $50,380.00 a year, or about $4,198.33 a month.

This example is checked against a hand-calculated test in our code. It assumes a resident who claims the tax-free threshold, with no HELP debt, private health cover issues or other income.

How we calculate this

This calculator applies the 2026-27 resident tax rates, the Low Income Tax Offset and the 2% Medicare levy, including the reduction for low incomes. The Medicare low-income thresholds are those the ATO has published for 2025-26 and will be updated when the 2026-27 figures appear. It does not include the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP or HECS repayments, work-related deductions claimed at tax time, or employer superannuation, which is paid on top of salary. It is an estimate. For an exact figure, consult a registered tax agent or the ATO.
