Finland Salary Calculator: Take-Home Pay After Tax

Enter your gross annual salary to see your take-home pay after Finnish income tax. Results are for an employee in mainland Finland living in a municipality at the 2026 average municipal tax rate, paid 12 equal monthly payments. Church tax is not included.

Worked example: 36,000 EUR salary

A gross salary of 36,000 EUR first pays the employee pension (TyEL) contribution of 7.30%, which is 2,628.00 EUR, the unemployment insurance contribution of 0.89%, which is 320.40 EUR, and the daily allowance contribution of 0.88%, which is 316.80 EUR, because pay is above 17,255 EUR. Together these contributions are 3,265.20 EUR. Net earned income is 36,000 - 750 (earned income deduction) - 3,265.20 = 31,984.80 EUR. The basic deduction is nil at this level, so taxable income is also 31,984.80 EUR. State tax on the scale is 2,780.80 EUR up to 22,000 EUR plus 19% of the 9,984.80 EUR above it, which is 1,897.11 EUR, so 4,677.91 EUR in total, and the work income credit of 3,430 EUR reduces it to 1,247.91 EUR. Municipal tax at 7.57% is 2,421.25 EUR, the medical care fee at 1.10% is 351.83 EUR, and the public broadcasting tax reaches its maximum of 160 EUR. Total tax and contributions are 3,265.20 + 1,247.91 + 2,421.25 + 351.83 + 160 = 7,446.19 EUR, so take-home pay is 36,000 - 7,446.19 = 28,553.81 EUR a year, or about 2,379 EUR a month over 12 payments.

This is our own calculation from the published 2026 rates and it is checked by a test in our code. We did not find an official worked example, so it is not an official figure. It assumes wage income only from one employer, no church tax and no other deductions.

How we calculate this

Contributions are taken from gross pay first: the employee TyEL pension contribution (7.30%), the unemployment insurance contribution (0.89%) and, once annual pay reaches 17,255 EUR, the daily allowance contribution (0.88%). Net earned income is pay less the earned income deduction (750 EUR) and these contributions. A basic deduction of at most 4,265 EUR, reduced by 18% of net earned income above that amount, gives taxable income, and it is nil above 27,959 EUR. State income tax follows the 2026 scale (12.64% to 22,000 EUR, 19% to 32,600, 30.25% to 40,100, 33.25% to 52,100 and 37.5% above) less the work income credit (at most 3,430 EUR, 18% of qualifying income, reduced by 2% of net earned income between 35,000 and 50,550 EUR). Municipal tax (7.57%) and the medical care fee (1.10%) are charged on taxable income, and the public broadcasting tax is 2.5% of taxable income above 15,150 EUR, at most 160 EUR.

We use the income-weighted average municipal rate for mainland Finland, so your own municipality will give a different result. Church tax applies to members only and is not subtracted from take-home pay. If the work income credit is larger than the state tax, the unused part reduces municipal tax and the medical care fee. Payslips and the final tax assessment can differ.

Some items are provisional because we could not confirm them on an official page: the base of the public broadcasting tax, the base of the work income credit, how an unused credit is split between municipal tax and the medical care fee, and amounts you enter as retirement or pre-tax contributions, which only reduce take-home pay here.
